How We Met
Bowling and beagles
Haley was recovering from an unfortunate wrist injury that occurred at the local aquarium. As a lifelong member of the USBC, Haley was a regular at Olivette Lanes, the local Bowling Alley.
Earlier that year, Cole was under strict direction to lead a healthier lifestyle. He decided to join a local bowling alley in an attempt to lose weight and polish his skills following an embarrassing incident at a recent birthday party.
Cole had bowled his 13th gutter ball, and decided he needed to re-hydrate. He was on his way to the concessions stand when he noticed a vending machine off in the distance. At the vending machine was a beautiful blonde woman. Cole noticed that she wore a wrist brace as she reached for a king-size box of Nerds candy from the vending machine's dispenser. He was immediately captivated by her custom bowling shoes and confident swagger. He wanted to approach her, but his lack of bowling skills were hindering his confidence.
For years, every Thursday night, Cole would rent a bowling alley and wait eagerly for a chance to approach the blonde girl at the vending machine. Each week, she would buy a king-size box of Nerds candy before sauntering over to her lane and bowling a Turkey, which she would often follow-up with a shot of Tequila.
Finally, on the twenty-eighth day of June 2018 at exactly 1:32 A.M., Haley punched the code for her usual king-size box of Nerds candy, which proceeded to get stuck against the glass of the vending machine. Cole sprung into action. He reached into his bowling bag and retrieved the years-old box of Nerds that he had purchased that first day he saw Haley. He ran to the vending machine, pushed Haley's hair away from her face and said "You know, I like Nerds too".
The whole bowling alley immediately erupted into applause as Cole and Haley kissed for the first time.
Upon returning to Cole's home for the first time, Haley fell in love with Muffin, Cole's purebred Beagle-Bull mix. Eventually, Haley fell in love with Cole, too.
They bonded over making up extravagant stories about how they met, which were often more entertaining than the true story - that they met on Hinge, a dating app. At one point, they told an Uber driver that Cole was the starting high school quarterback and Haley was a cheerleader for the rival team. The driver was so moved by the story that he professed that he would share our story with his congregation. At this point, they agreed to always tell ridiculous how-we-met stories.
Over the years, Haley and Cole lived, laughed, and loved. Haley taught Cole about checking into flights 24 hours beforehand, paying for utilities, and that Mac computers can, in fact, "Undo".
Cole surprised Haley with her perfect dog, a mutt that looks like a black lab forever puppy. The four of them - Cole, Haley, Muffin and Denali - make the perfect family.
